The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards are tonight, which marks the first time that they will take place at Los Angeles' Paramount Theater. And I'm sooo excited! OK, well not that excited. Not as excited as I once was when I ACTUALLY ATTENDED THE VMA'S... AS A SEAT FILLER! Sorry. I had to put that in caps. Don't think I'm trying to show off. OK fine. I'm totally trying to show off. But trust me, if you went to the VMA's, you'd be showing off too!
Growing up in the MTV generation, I was always cutting school to attend TRL. (Back in the days of Nsync and The Backstreet Boys, and Carson Daly was host). Even to be lucky enough to stand outside amongst the sea of pre-adolecent girls was quite the hobby of mine. And attending the VMA's... well, that was just a dream. But deep down inside, I always knew I'd be there eventually.
So two years ago to this day, yours truly, was a seat filler at the 2006 VMA's at Radio City Music Hall. My very good friend, Erin, told me that she scored two tickets to be seat fillers, so of course I said 'Hell Yeah'! I told my bosses at work that I had to leave early. Going to work all dolled up, in a $200 Jessica Simpson-esque halter top with a neck-line full of diamonds, I sure as hell didn't have a doctors appointment. So yes, I had no choice but to tell them where I was going. (I know. You're probably thinking, $200 just for a top! But once my night was over, I returned it. I know. That's so ghetto. But a poor girls gotta do, what a poor girls gotta do).
So I left my office super early and hauled ass to Radio City where Erin was anxiously in line with hundreds of other kids. I could hardly contain myself. This was something I've dreamed of my whole life. And I'm actually doing it! A few minutes later, we slowly got loaded in to Radio City. And the madness begun...
Just going to the bathroom, I saw Hilary Duff, Carrie Underwood, Danity Kane, and Blink 182. And that's just on the way to and from the bathroom! Pretty soon, the show started. And once the lights went out, celebrities were everywhere.
As the night went on, we continued to see anybody and everybody. And let me tell you, we had the best seats in the house. As a seat filler, you don't stay in one seat for very long. You're kind of all over the place, running around, trying to find empty seats next to your favorite celebrities. Although it's nerve wracking, since you never know when you're going to have to get up, and none the less, who is going to ask you to get up, it's probably the most fun I've ever had. And it totally is glamorous.
So until my next VMA appearance, I guess I'll just have to settle watching it on TV for now. But someday... someday I shall be there again. And this time, not as a seat filler. But as a guest! Maybe even as a presenter!
