Freaks and Geeks

No, I'm not talking about that awesomely now cancelled TV show. I'm talking about life in Hollywood. The weirdest place on Earth. At least I think so.

In the city of freaks and geeks, you would think that there has to be someone out there who is your friend. Somebody who at least wants to be your friend. Somebody who cares about you. Just a little bit. But in the city of dreams, everyone only cares about themselves. And you can't depend on anybody but you.

I've been living in Hollyweird for almost two months now. And it's been the best two months, yet the strangest two months, of my life. I've also worked in the entertainment industry for the past five years, so most of my "Friends" (Yes, that's friends in quotations) from the biz live out here. I can't even tell you how many phone calls, emails, texts, Facebook comments, I've gotten upon my arrival...

"Can't wait to see you!!!" "

We MUST hang out when you get here!"

And ever since I've been here... Nada. Nothing. Zilch. I have met up with a couple of "Friends" just once. They act like they love you, that you are the most amazing person ever, and then you never hear from them again. And some "Friends" haven't even made the effort to get together at all. Instead, they are just MIA all the time and never, ever return your calls.

Yes, everybody out here is busy. Everybody out here is trying to make something of themselves. I totally get it. But every now and then, it would be nice to return a phone call, a text message, an email, etc. And every now and then, it would be nice to have a friend.

Hollyweird does strange things to people. So whether you hit or miss, if you can survive Hollywood as the person you were when you came in, then in my opinion, you've truly succeeded. The rest is up to you.

Thats a bummer. It would be really awkward to bump into one of them!

Friendship in L.A. is a sign of weakness...for most, the only friends worth knowing are the ones who can further your career, sad but true!

That's really bad, not to have a single person on who we can relay on but, looking on the bright side, it's also good that you can say "Friends", like that, because that means you are not being fooled by that!

And, btw, it's not only in Hollywood. That kind of friends, believe me, sometimes its more easy to find them than it seems. There are lots of those here in Portugal! xD

To follow up what mysterg said... Welcome to L.A., where being fake is a perfected art form.

I agree with Marta, it's true, those type of "Friends" seem to be everywhere. It sounds like they're just a bit more condensed in LA. Maybe you can make some friends outside of the "biz" that will be a little bit more real. I am sure there has to be at least one or two!

Yeah, those types of people are everywhere. But it's just different here. Everybody's head is in the clouds. I guess that's why they call it La La Land.

Yeah, things are definitely weird out there. I have family out there... and I think they're strange. Things out west and things down south are wayyyy different. Ah well! At least you've been enjoying yourself!
