Are You A Debbie Downer?

If there's one thing I've learned from being out in Los Angeles, it's that everybody is so optimistic. Everybody has a dream. Everybody has stars in their eyes. And everybody thinks that they are going to make it.

Back in New York, people are the complete opposite. Of course my friends and family are thrilled that I've come here to pursue my dream. But being the pessimistic, neurotic New Yorkers that they are, they only have negative things to say. I could be having the greatest day ever, and somehow, somebody will try and bring me down.

Here is a perfect example...

I just got called in for an interview at a great TV show. The girl who set up the interview with me said she was going to send me an email with the details (the address, who I'll be interviewing with, etc.) and just my luck, of course I never got the email. After telling my mother this, she exclaims, "Forget about it. I bet it was just one of your friends playing a joke on you!"

Thank you, mom, for not believing I would get called for an interview. And thank you to everybody out there who tries to bring people down. Why don't you just MYOB?

PS - Be sure to watch this classic Debbie Downer SNL sketch featuring Lindsay Lohan. If this doesn't make you laugh, then you ARE Debbie Downer!

Debbie Downers are a pain to deal with, for sure.

Bummer you didn't get the e-mail! I'm sure you thought of it, but did you check your spam folder?? ;-)

Yep, the email was never even sent. It's all good though. I went for the interview anyway. I figured out where it was ;)

Ugh, that is the worst! It isn't bad enough that you didn't get the information that you wanted, but then to have the rain come pouring down on your parade is just not fun. I have a few Debbie Downers I know, I've tried to separate myself from most but some (ie family) just can't be done.

I don't think this is specific to New Yorkers, I think this a common trait among mothers everywhere. If I haven't seen my mom in a while she likes to open with "Are you eating enough?" or "I see you cut your hair..."

I think everyone has a dream no matter where you are... But I think that family in general always has to worry about people they care about!! I guess that is a good think>

That Debbie Downer skit was probably more funny just from watching the actress try so hard not to laugh. She just kept busting up! :-)

I hate negative attitudes. It's the worst, isn't it? I'm a major believer in positive thinking, so just keep thinking positive. Maybe that email will come to you soon, or maybe there's something bigger out there waiting around the corner.

Yeah, that's what I keep telling myself, everyday. Something better is waiting for you around the corner. So where is it? :/

I absolutely don't think I'm a DD, yet sometimes I feel like one! I think a positive attitude can work miracles and I try to always have one, no matter what. Maybe it makes me a bit delusional, but happy, for the most part!
