Like so many fair-weather fans before me, I gave in. I did the worst thing a New Yorker could do. I moved to Los Angeles. They city of dreams. The city of narcissism. But why, you ask? Well, I, like everybody else here in the city of dreams, believe that I will make it. And in the process, I can't help but take notice of the vast differences between the two...
In Los Angeles, people...
are always so busy, yet nobody works
move to LA with nothing, and gain everything. Or so they think!
are eternal optimists and believe that they are the next big thing
can be introduced to you 100 times and still cannot remember your name
wear different colors.
try to be original.
are only friends with you if you are successful
are afraid of bad weather.
go to rehab
are self absorbed
think that they are on Entourage

In New York, people...
work, yet still have free time.
move to NYC with their parents money
are pessimistic and always negative
always wear black
ARE original.
are only friends with you if you are cool
may or may not be nice, but they are real, and most likely you could find a friend or two
think that the worst is always about to happen.
enjoy cloudy, rainy days.
Have ADD
think they are on Sex And The City

People in California are way too happy-go-lucky, but then again, my personality pretty much screams New York.
New York for me too !!!!!
Maybe this is true of the two cities, but not for people outside of them. Its a gross generalization. There are plenty of deep, hard working people in California.I have met a few New Yorkers and I found them to be harsh, but I haven't met them all, so I couldn't say its true of everyone.
"are always so busy, yet nobody works"
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this, haha.
Or, for those of us who haven't shed our teeny-bopper side just yet..
LA: Think they are on the Hills.
New York: Thank they are on Gossip Girl.
As a twenty-something migrating from LA to NYC (with a pit-stop in AZ), I have to say I wholeheartedly agree with your post. :)
I must say that I agree 100% with you (sorry Date Girl). A good friend of mine moved to California for work, back in NH she worked hard every day, even putting in extra hours. In CA she works 1/2 days and usually no Fridays....but she does the same job with extra offices to take care of. Figure that out.....
I just awarded you an award...stop by my page to claim it.
Aww you're awesome, thanks girlie! I will check it out now
Wow Jen! Why the move? I love the bit on New York. Especially the fact people wear black...soooo true. I wish you all the luck and hope you make it big. Robin The Perpetual Single Woman!
Thanks Robin! I moved because I'm pursuing sitcom writing. And nobody seems to wear black out here. Just me ;)
This is kind of funny... I've never been to either city but it would be interesting to check it out for myself.
I actually stopped wearing so much black bc you blend in so easily.
And I totally love rainy days too - LOL!
